Message from YG [2009.11.12] [Korean-English Translation]

2009-11-12   9:32:20 am

Hi, it’s Yang Hyun Suk here. Take a bow~

I’m here today for the news of Tae Yang’s solo album.

Tae Yang’s second digital single

<Wedding Dress>

Tomorrow (11/13) Tae Yang’s second digital single “Wedding Dress” is about to release.

“Wedding Dress” is the song that Tae Yang co-wrote with Teddy. It’s not on the TV as “Where U At”. We plan to promote this song until the end of 2009 and the MV directed by Mr. Jang Jae Hyeok will be expecting to air tomorrow.

Fans are waiting in anxiety for the release of this album. Many news that came out before have created a little confusion.

Speaking of the release of “Where U At” digital single went into silence and did not get enough promotional broadcasting.

And to the release of “Wedding Dress” without the public preview also went disappeared.

I’m sure that there are a lot of complaints on these matters.

The Artist and YG are working hard for the album with desire and the fans all want to know more to come on all that.

But according to the less amount of the off-line music sales than last year….

I don’t think it is easy now to release the album on-line today at the same time in this situation.

It’s hard to reach for No.1 on the weekly music chart. Keeping the listeners from not walking out on you today is hard enough. They swiftly shift the way they listen to a song.

The influence of both on-line and off-line music affects the TV people’s choice of a comeback artist with a brand new song.

Like 2NE1, who have got lots of love from their first mini-album, are not in the plan of the follow-up promotional activities for it.

You can say that G-Dragon’s “Heartbreaker,” “Breathe” and “A Boy” follow-up activities which got a short period in broadcasting is like the whole promotion of the entire album.

That’s why we make 4 PVs for it.

Tae Yang requests his album promotion period to last longer depending on the activities in the progress that we plan to do.

It’s like what they do in the typical American way of releasing a single first and then follows by the studio album.

The only different is you’ll have one hit single first and then the title track together with the album.

Let’s say, “Where U At” is the first track of this album, marking the starting point of it all and

then “Wedding Dress” to follow suit.

It’s going to be kick-ass!

Tae Yang’s promotional activities are set.

Last month the foreign choreographers came to Korea not to brainstorm on “Where U At” but for the steps of “Wedding Dress.”

Tae Yang’s comeback after one year and a half is just around the corner.

We put a lot of effort into it and look forward to a good feedback.

I want all the fans to show us your support.

I’m supposed to be here for the Tae Yang news.

But I’ll give you some short news on 2NE1 and G-Dragon.

2NE1

Park Bom never stops smiling since her “You And I” gets such a good feedback.

Even when I get angry at or pressure her, she only keeps smiling.

The bad news is we have to postpone the release of their album to next year

And we cannot hold their concert on December 30-31.

That’s because we figured it out that we haven’t had enough songs to do so.

Then the good news is that we will have a surprise show on November 20

And I won’t go in details because it’s a surprise.

We know that you’re curious, but be patient, it won’t be that long.

G-Dragon

He will have the concerts at The Olympic Park on December 5-6.

So, he will stop all the broadcasting activities to focus on his practice.

“G-Dragon” will hold a surprise event next month.

All I can tell is that all the ladies will love to do so.

I’ll be back next time.

Coming up next are Se7en and Gommi new albums0

Good-bye, everyone….Take a bow~ (Young Bae~ Hwaiting!)

2009. 11. 12.

FROM YG

VIPs, we know you’re complaining YG’s artist promo strategies on YB, but be patient; the album’ll be as hot as YB himself! The six pack abs to rule K-Pop!

Peace,

XOXO

BIGBANG TaeYang digital single release information

–The YG Notice posted today–

Hi,

It’s YG Entetainment.

BIGBANG Tae Yang is releasing [Where U At] since his last solo was out 1 year and 5 months ago.

Tae Yang has left a strong impression for the audiences and critics from the solo mini-album “Hot” with the hits like “나만 바라봐” (Look Only At Me) and “기도” (Prayer). He earns a recognition as the lead vocalist of the popular idol group,BIGBANG, and also as a solo artist through that album.

The digital single [Where U At] was written by Teddy who brought the sensation back to the music industry through his production like last year’s “나만 바라봐” (Look Only At Me) and “기도” (Prayer) and this year for ‘롤리팝’ (Lollipop) plus 2NE1’s ‘FIRE’ and ‘I Don’t Care.’

[Where U At] was written from the thoughts of a 22-year-old Tae Yang who never has a girlfriend before. The sentimental story is based on Tae Yang’s situation dreaming about his future not yet to come girlfriend out there.

Probed and Proved!BIGBANG G-Dragon’s Heartbreaker does NOT plagiarize Flo Rida’s Right Round

All,

The reason why we raise this issue is that we find this particular piece a very thorough well-written song review by Joelle of [/] Fly Reviews. She did some researches on the terms of  hip-hop sampling, rap, intellectual property law and, of course, plagiarism. We totally agree with her that shifting of people’s mindset is very hard.Let alone ours.

When people hear from a news, they start judging others by the headlines in which we think that it’s a prejudicial and unfair treatment to the creativity and musicianship of those hardworking lyricists, composers and artists.

We highly recommend you all to go read her full review here.

In Verse 1 of Flo-Rida’s Right Round, the second eighth-beat is broken. Flo-Rida took a breath and separated the sentence into two. This is the same for the fourth eighth-beat. If you listen carefully to the pauses in Flo-Rida’s rap, they are always on the eighth beat.

Heartbreaker’s Verse 1 had three different breaks found on the second fourth-beat, the third fourth-beat and the fourth fourth-beat. G-Dragon’s breaks in raps are always on the fourth beats.

The second verse repeats the same pattern, mentioned above, in Heartbreaker. The second verse of Right Round however, is longer with eight beats of eight.

During the chorus, Right Round uses only bass drums. The down-tempo is significantly absent. The use of the down-tempo beat returns only during the final part of the chorus. As for Heartbreaker, the down-tempo is used throughout the song, except for the bridge.

Both bridges of the songs are very different. The bridge of Right Roundcomposes of rapping, whereas Heartbreaker has a singing bridge.

To my best knowledge, at least I do not think G-Dragon plagiarized. Sampled probably, but not plagiarised. It is pretty obvious to me that Heartbreaker has a more commercialised and mainstream sound compared to Right Round.

Heartbreaker follows the ‘standard’ structure for popular music (pop songs, if you’d like to call them). It starts with a verse followed by a chorus and repeats this pattern, before a bridge and then a chorus to end the song off.

Then on does who start at the first win?

Lastly, don’t people always say ‘the first one to come out wins’? Well, now you know why.

For all we know, G-Dragon might have been working on his solo album for the past eight years and wrote the song two years ago. Just because it came out afterRight Round, it is plagiarism. Of course, that this is just my assumption.

G-Dragon started training in YG Entertainment since he was 13. If he had been trained to write music this way, then is it not natural that he wrote his debut album this way? If you listened to all of the songs he had written, was it not all done this way – a rapping verse, followed by a singing chorus?

It really sums YG & G-Dragon up

If G-Dragon is branded as a ‘plagiarist’, there is no way Big Bang or YG Entertainment can rebuild their reputations again. People need not hear for themselves to decide if G-Dragon plagiarised or not. As long as they believe the news that is circulating online, they, without second thought, will strike him off their list of listens, like I did two years ago.

It’s disheartening for me to come to this conclusion: Music is not the common language anymore; money is.

Peace

XOXO
